Character Catalog

Zeus- "...ruler of Gods and Men".(pg.3)

Thetis- "...Sea nymph, racing over...[the] waves with the wind behind her".(pg.3)

Peleus-"...Peleus would not let her go until she had promised to be his bride ".(pg.4)

Hera-"...Queen of the Gods...".(pg.6)

Athene- "...Violets about her perfumed the air...she looked down at him smilingly, yet...a hint of scorn".(pg.8/10)

Aphrodite- "...Smiling Aphrodite...was confident and merry...".(pg.10)

Priam- " 'What is the life of one child against the well fair of all' ".(pg.7)

Hecuba- "Queen Hecuba...awakened...she had dreamed that the son she hoped to bear was no child, but a flaming torch".(pg.6)

Paris-"...his nature was soft and peaceful...he was ignorant to the world".(pg.7)

King Agamemnon:
Agamemnon was the king of Mycanae and overlord of Greece. "He...could not bear the reproach of failure..." as he was greedy and selfish. The kings pride was as more important then his daughter herself. He wanted all the power to himself.

Iphigenia:
Iphigenia was the daughter of Agamemnon. She was a joy full girl, eager for her wedding that her father had falsely planned. When "the poor girl came... decked out in her best cloths..." she found out that her father had not planned her a wedding but to her despair a sacrifice. She was courage's as "...the knife of the slayer rose and fell." But as no one new Artemis found her soul as a fawn and took Iphigenia's soul. So everything turned out fine for her.

Calchas:
Calchas was "the prophet, who knew the mind of the gods and could foretell the future." He was a man of loyalty and had great intentions when he told Agamemnon that the only way to get the wind to go the other direction so they could sail to Troy was to sacrifice his daughter.
